IPSY January 2020 Glam Bag Subscription Review

Updated: Feb 20, 2020

"New year, new Glam Bag." - IPSY

"Yes, please." -Me

January's bag is marbled with pink with a rose gold zipper accent. Feels like a fresh start for the year! Make sure you follow me on Insta @love_batsy to watch my unboxings when IPSY and other products arrive. We did pay for this subscription and, as always, all opinions are honest and our own.

For those new to IPSY:

Since about a year ago, you have the option at the end of ever month to pick an item out of a small selection for your next bag. The rest of your items are curated from that pick. I decided to go old school and not pick an item this month. They all seemed good to me!

Usually on the 2nd of the month, you can see a preview of your bag and a list of add-on items that range from $3 for a deluxe sized product to $18 for a full sized product. Your bag is then assembled and shipped out the next week. You'll receive an email with a tracking code, which I usually receive mine about halfway through the month.

The base Glam Bag is $10 per month for 5 deluxe and full sized products with a small bag. Glam Bag Plus is $25 for 5 full sized products every month and a larger bag, and Glam Bag Ultimate is $50 for 12 beauty products every month and has an even larger bag. Shipping within the US is free. I have only tried the base Glam Bag, but I am hoping to try the other two eventually.

This months goodies:

So Venus is a limited edition color that's only available on the UK site? Otherwise, there are 4 shades that retail for $20 for the full-sized product, which you can see pictured above. It was pretty pigmented, so a little goes a long way.

So this liquid eyeshadow transforms from liquid to solid, so it won't crease or smudge. That being said, it didn't dry so quickly that it couldn't blend which was nice. It would look really nice layered with other shades and, because of it's unique formula, as a liquid eyeliner.

N likes liquid eyeshadow in general and she really liked it. D felt like it was too wet, which is a concern for her because of her hooded eyes. It was way too shimmery and metallic for M, so she low-key didn't know what to do with it. Otherwise, we all thought the shade of brown was really pretty. 🛸Update! This is an easy go to for N and D who have been using it quite frequently when they are in a rush.

🌹-JJ Young Pore Glow Mask

This can be found at CVS for $12.99 for 1.7oz, which about 3 times bigger than what we received. I'll probably try putting this in my mini makeup fridge. The combination of ingredients purify the skin while tightening and sealing in hydration, leaving a cooling feeling on your face with menthol. M and D weren't the biggest fans of the tingly feeling from the menthol, but we all agreed our skin felt immediately smoother and softer. The mask was light and refreshing, and the natural fruit ingredients did indeed hydrate our skin through the following days.

This lip lacquer retails for $24 for the .23 oz/6.5 g, and the deluxe size IPSY sent is a little more than half of that. Which confuses me because this thing was massive. Like, I don't want to imagine how big the full size product is.

D doesn’t like lacquer glossy types but really liked the color. It's been her go-to lip product lately. She did remark that her lips are quite chapped in a couple spots and it did sting a little to apply. However, the product contains a lot of ingredients to help heal your lips like Vitamins C & E and antioxidants. M doesn’t like the sticky feeling and was kind of eager to take it off. It's kind of standard for and lacquer though, so if you don't mind them normally, it should be fine. But, the biggest surprise of all is that it didn’t turn berry like everything else on N. It's very pigmented and true to color.

Here are the swatches for

This brush normally retails at $18. IPSY loves to include Luxie Beauty brushes in their bags. The simple but cute look is a staple. Our favorite thing about Luxie is that the brushes are reliable and consistent.

This brush in particular is a pretty standard fan brush. D really liked the size of it. She has one other fan brush that she isn't a huge fan of because it was too long, but this one was just the right size a bit wider. Not to mention, so much softer 😍. M only highlights on her eyelids so she's not a huge fan of...fan brushes in general.

The full size of this product costs $34 for 40 mL/1.35 floz. IPSY sent the 5ml/0.16 fl oz so about a seventh? Ugh, math. That's the last of it for this post, I promise.

What hit us pretty quickly was the smell. It didn't smell...great. It was actually kind of distracting and not in a good way. The smell doesn’t really fade much either, so if you’re sensitive to smell, I don't recommend it.

On the other hand, it felt soooo gooooood. Our faces felt so smooth and soft. Something really cool about this primer too is that it's "replenishing" so you can actually apply it throughout the day when you need a pick-me-up after facing the cold of winter or the dry air inside.

Lastly, on the inside of the bag is this cute IPSY label. I am a huge fan of this design. IPSY, if you are reading this, I love this detail, so please don't stop it. Maybe even change the colors in the future to match the bag design. It's a small detail, but makes it all feel so polished.

If you are interested in trying IPSY for yourself, here's my referral link - going through this link rather than just Googling IPSY helps support this blog and all of my other posts. And if you've tried any of the products above, I would love to hear about your experiences. Comment or tag me here or on Instagram.
